Simple Wood Fall Lantern

 Hi everyone! I am so happy to share another fun lantern craft with all of you. I didn't realize just how many of you would enjoy my mini wood lantern. I decided since so many of you reached out to me about my lantern, and I received a lot of feedback on it, I wanted to create a simple wood fall lantern. Instead of using the wood tumbling blocks from Dollar Tree, we will be using 3½ x 3½ square wood pieces. I am reusing my wood pieces from a leftover fence picket.

Materials

Two 3½ x 3 ½ wood squares

Paint- I'm using chalk paint. Color is called a milk jug

Paintbrush

Twine

Scissors

Wood bead

10 medium size craft popsicle sticks

Battery-operated tealight candle

Optional- Mod Podge, and decorative napkin

Start by applying paint to your square pieces. Once you have applied your paint, allow it to completely dry. 

Next, take your craft popsicle sticks, and begin to add paint to the front, and back of each stick.

Begin to glue your lantern wood structure together. 

Add four of your craft sticks to each side of your wood square pieces.

Add hot glue to each popsicle stick, and add it to your wood squares.

Take your other six craft sticks, and begin to glue them onto the three sides of your lantern. Be sure to leave an opening on the front side of your lantern. You will create an x when gluing on your craft sticks.

This next step is completely optional, but I like how it turned out.

Apply a thin layer of mod podge to the top of your lantern. Once you have applied your mod podge, take your fall decorative napkin, and add it over the mod podge. Add another layer of your mod podge over your napkin design. I used my blow dryer to help with drying.

Take your wood bead, and apply paint. 

After you have applied paint, add it to the top section of your lantern.

Take your twine, and begin to wrap your twine around your wood bead.  Once you have wrapped your twine around, tie it into a knot. Use your scissors and cut any of the remaining twine.

Take your fall craft leaves, and begin to add them to your lantern. I added three of my leaves inside on the bottom of my lantern.

All that is left is to add your battery-operated candle. 

Your fall wood lantern is complete. I love how simple it was to create, and just like with my mini wood lantern, I was able to use my craft popsicle sticks.  I hope that you have enjoyed this craft.
