The holiday season always inspires me to see everyday items in a new light. This year, I found myself holding a round candy tin and imagining how it could be transformed into a sparkling ornament for the Christmas tree. With just a few simple materials and a touch of creativity, this ordinary tin can become a festive keepsake that adds charm and personality to your holiday décor.

Materials Needed
One round candy tin
Twine, string, or jute
Acrylic paint (white or your choice)
Paintbrush
Scissors
One mini decorative ornament
Faux snow or Epsom salt
Gem strips with sticky backing
Mod Podge
Decorative tissue paper or craft paper
Faux foliage (small sprigs or leaves)
Hot glue gun
To begin, I traced the outline of the candy tin onto a piece of decorative tissue paper.
I chose a thinner tissue paper for its delicate look, but since it was sheer, I decided to paint the tin with a few layers of white acrylic paint first.
Once the paint dried, I brushed Mod Podge onto the center of the tin and carefully placed the cut-out tissue paper on top. To smooth it down, I used a heating tool, which helped the paper adhere neatly without wrinkles.
After securing the paper, I added another layer of Mod Podge over the surface and around the inside edges of the tin. While it was still tacky, I sprinkled Epsom salt—faux craft snow works beautifully too—across the bottom.
For extra sparkle, I added a touch of glitter, which caught the light perfectly.
To dress up the edges, I cut small sections of gem strips and pressed them around the rim of the tin. Since the gems had a sticky backing, this step was quick and easy, instantly elevating the look with a touch of shine.
Next came the fun part: decorating the inside. Using hot glue, I secured a mini decorative ornament at the bottom of the tin and added sprigs of faux foliage to the top of the tin. This added a natural, festive touch, making the ornament feel complete.
Finally, I cut a short strand of twine and glued it to the back of the tin to create a loop for hanging.
This project proves that holiday spirit doesn't require a big budget, just a little creativity and care.
Now, as you hang your shiny new ornament on the tree, take a moment to admire the way it catches the twinkling lights. It's more than just a decoration—it's a handmade memory, a testament to the joy of upcycling, and a sweet little nod to the festive treats of the season.
