Video tutorial

 Materials Needed

  • 1 metal can (cleaned and label removed)
  • Acrylic paint (white recommended)
  • Scissors
  • Hot glue gun and glue sticks
  • Wooden beads
  • Optional: 1 wooden leaf embellishment
  • Faux flowers
  • Twine
  • Mod Podge
  • Paintbrush
  • 1 decorative napkin
  • Floral cutters
  • Optional: Foam floral block
  • Sandpaper
  • Heating tool (or time to air dry)

1. Prep the Can

Start by sanding the surface of your metal can. This helps the paint adhere better and gives a smoother finish. Wipe away any dust or residue with a clean cloth.

2. Paint the Base

Apply white acrylic paint to the can using a paintbrush. You may need 2–3 coats for full coverage. Allow each coat to dry thoroughly—either air dry or use a heating tool to speed up the process.

3. Decorate with Napkin Art

Take your decorative napkin and gently separate the top printed layer from the backing. Apply a thin layer of Mod Podge to the can where you want the napkin to go. Carefully place the napkin over the Mod Podge and smooth it out with your fingers or plastic wrap to remove creases. Once it’s set, apply another layer of Mod Podge over the napkin and dry it with a heating tool.

4. Frame with Twine

Use hot glue to attach twine around the outline of the napkin design. Trim the ends with scissors for a clean finish.

5. Add Bronze Accents

Using a small paintbrush, apply bronze acrylic paint to the wooden leaf embellishment and lightly brush some onto the can for a subtle shimmer.

6. Top Twine Wrap

Wrap twine around the top rim of the can several times. Secure it with hot glue, leaving a small section of twine hanging down.

7. Beads & Leaf Charm

Thread wooden beads onto the hanging twine. Tie a knot at the end and attach the bronze-painted leaf embellishment for a charming touch.

8. Arrange the Florals

Use floral cutters to trim your faux flowers to the desired height. If you prefer, insert a foam floral block into the can to help anchor your arrangement. Place your flowers inside and gently fluff them to achieve fullness.

🍁 Final Touch

Your upcycled fall floral vase is now complete! Place it on a mantel, dining table, or entryway to add a warm, seasonal vibe to your space. This project is not only budget-friendly but also a beautiful way to repurpose materials with heart and creativity.

How I Refreshed an Old Garden Statue with Paint (Easy Patio DIY)

This charming toad perched on his toadstool has been a beloved part of our patio for years, enduring the passage of time while gradually succumbing to the effects of sun and weather. With each season, he has faded a little more, losing some of his vibrant colors and details. Rather than allowing him to blend into the background and become just another forgotten decoration, I decided it was time to breathe new life into him.  I shared the whole process in a quick YouTube Shorts video called “Watch Me Refresh This Old Garden Statue.” It’s a simple before‑and‑after, but such a satisfying one.  Materials I Used Garden statue (mine is a toad on a toadstool) Sandpaper Acrylic paints Small detail brushes Mod Podge (for sealing and protection) Sanding and Painting I began by gently sanding the statue to smooth out the chipped and faded paint. It only takes a few minutes, but it makes such a difference. Once the surface felt ready, I brought out my acrylic paints and started...
