Easy Canvas Art Project Using Dollar Tree Items

Autumn is the perfect time for cozy vibes, golden leaves, and creative inspiration — and what better way to celebrate than with a handmade canvas art piece that combines seasonal charm with year-round appeal? This project is budget-friendly, easy to customize, and made from materials you can find right at Dollar Tree. Let’s get started with this fun and colorful craft!

Materials You’ll Need:

• 1 blank canvas (any size you prefer)

• Acrylic paint (I used light peach and brown)

• Paintbrush

• Leaf decals (gold and dark blue for contrast)

• Bird iron-on decals (yes, they work beautifully beyond fabric!)

• Wooden word cutout (I chose “hello”)

• Hot glue gun

• Heat tool (or hair dryer)

• Scissors (optional, for trimming decals)

Step-by-Step Instructions:

1. Mix & Paint Your Canvas

Begin by mixing your acrylic paints — light peach and brown — to create a warm, earthy tone. Lightly brush the color across your canvas with a paintbrush. Don’t worry about making it perfect; the soft strokes give it a rustic, textured look that’s ideal for fall. Once you’re satisfied with the coverage, use a heat tool or hair dryer to thoroughly dry the paint. This step is essential before layering on your embellishments.

2. Add Your Greeting

Next, take your wooden word cutout. I picked “hello” to keep it friendly and versatile. Attach it to your canvas anywhere that feels right—top center, bottom corner, or even diagonally for a playful touch—using hot glue.

3. Apply the Leaf Decals

Now it’s time to add those beautiful leaf decals. These aren’t just for walls—they work perfectly on canvas too! I chose gold and dark blue leaves for contrast and a touch of elegance. Trim around the designs if needed, peel off the backing, and press them onto your canvas. Arrange them like falling leaves or cluster them around the word cutout for a layered effect.

4. Place the Bird Iron-On Decals

Here’s where the fun really begins: bird iron-on decals. These colorful accents are usually used on fabric, but trust me—they’re a hidden gem for canvas art. I selected a vibrant bird to add a splash of color and whimsy to my design. Since the back was sticky, I added a dab of hot glue to ensure it stayed in place.

Final Touches

And just like that, your autumn canvas art is ready! It’s cozy, creative, and a little unexpected with those cheerful birds. Best of all, it’s a piece you can display throughout the season—or even year-round.
