Easy Canvas Art Project Using Dollar Tree Items

Autumn is the perfect time for cozy vibes, golden leaves, and creative inspiration — and what better way to celebrate than with a handmade canvas art piece that combines seasonal charm with year-round appeal? This project is budget-friendly, easy to customize, and made from materials you can find right at Dollar Tree. Let’s get started with this fun and colorful craft!

Video tutorial

Materials You’ll Need:

• 1 blank canvas (any size you prefer)

• Acrylic paint (I used light peach and brown)

• Paintbrush

• Leaf decals (gold and dark blue for contrast)

• Bird iron-on decals (yes, they work beautifully beyond fabric!)

• Wooden word cutout (I chose “hello”)

• Hot glue gun

• Heat tool (or hair dryer)

• Scissors (optional, for trimming decals)

Step-by-Step Instructions:

1. Mix & Paint Your Canvas

Begin by mixing your acrylic paints — light peach and brown — to create a warm, earthy tone. Lightly brush the color across your canvas with a paintbrush. Don’t worry about making it perfect; the soft strokes give it a rustic, textured look that’s ideal for fall. Once you’re satisfied with the coverage, use a heat tool or hair dryer to thoroughly dry the paint. This step is essential before layering on your embellishments.

2. Add Your Greeting

Next, take your wooden word cutout. I picked “hello” to keep it friendly and versatile. Attach it to your canvas anywhere that feels right—top center, bottom corner, or even diagonally for a playful touch—using hot glue.

3. Apply the Leaf Decals

Now it’s time to add those beautiful leaf decals. These aren’t just for walls—they work perfectly on canvas too! I chose gold and dark blue leaves for contrast and a touch of elegance. Trim around the designs if needed, peel off the backing, and press them onto your canvas. Arrange them like falling leaves or cluster them around the word cutout for a layered effect.

4. Place the Bird Iron-On Decals

Here’s where the fun really begins: bird iron-on decals. These colorful accents are usually used on fabric, but trust me—they’re a hidden gem for canvas art. I selected a vibrant bird to add a splash of color and whimsy to my design. Since the back was sticky, I added a dab of hot glue to ensure it stayed in place.

Final Touches

And just like that, your autumn canvas art is ready! It’s cozy, creative, and a little unexpected with those cheerful birds. Best of all, it’s a piece you can display throughout the season—or even year-round.

Whether you’re crafting for yourself or giving it as a gift, this project proves that art doesn’t have to be expensive to be meaningful.  🍁

DIY Magnetic Faux Succulent & Floral Lids — Upcycled Fridge Accent

I created these magnetic faux succulent and floral lids using some metal jar tops that I had saved. With a little creativity, they transformed into charming, lightweight accents that add a pop of color and personality to the fridge. The moss added softness and helped anchor the colorful...

Transforming a Dollar Tree Metal Home Sign with Paint

Hello, blogging friends! Today, I’m excited to share an easy makeover I did using a “HOME” sign from Dollar Tree. This project is simple, but the transformation feels soft, warm, and inviting—just the kind of piece that quietly brightens a space. The sign began as plain and flat, but after a few gentle coats of paint, it became something charming and full of personality. Video tutorial  Materials Dollar Tree metal HOME sign (Crafter’s Square) Black FolkArt Matte Acrylic Paint Light green Craft Smart Matte Acrylic Paint Coral Craft Smart Matte Acrylic Paint Light pink paint Dark green Paintbrushes (flat and detail brushes) I started by applying a black base coat to the entire sign. Using a small, pointed-tip brush, I carefully reached all the tiny areas around the leaves and buds. I applied three coats of black paint, drying each layer with my heat tool. This step creates a clean, even surface and helps the top colors stand out beautifully. Next, I used a light green paint t...

Cozy Corner Kitchen Tray Styling with Mini Lamp Inspiration

Hello everyone! Join me as I style a cozy corner in my kitchen using a tray in various ways. I recently purchased a mini lamp for the kitchen and wanted to create a low-light area with some decorations. I took my wooden tray and arranged a few decorative items on it. I can't wait to share my ideas with you. Let’s work together to create a warm and inviting kitchen corner! Video tutorial I prefer to keep my tray styling simple. For my first tray design, I wanted to incorporate my pug planter. I used pink faux flowers and various types of foliage to enhance the planter. I placed the planter in one corner of the tray and arranged the foliage around it before adding the pink flowers into the planter. Additionally, I included my purple textured candle jar. To complete the design, I arranged a selection of pink faux flowers directly on the tray near the lamp. For my second cozy tray design, I decided to include a clay pot decoration filled with craft moss. This is one of my favorite desi...
