Fall faux window design using picture frames from Dollar Tree

 If you’re looking for a cozy fall craft, this DIY faux window design is such a pretty and simple project. I’ll show you how to turn Dollar Tree picture frames into a warm autumn window decorated with faux leaves and seasonal colors. It’s an easy, beginner‑friendly piece that adds a soft fall touch to any room.

I found these frames in my craft stash on a rainy afternoon and decided to create a little autumn window scene. If you’re ready, let’s start building this charming fall décor.

Materials

Four picture frames--I'm using picture frames I purchased from Dollar Tree. Size-3½ inches by 5 inches.

Hot glue- you will also need a heavy-duty adhesive like E6000 or Gorilla Glue. 

Fall leaf stickers--I purchased my pack at Dollar Tree

Paint- I'm using a color called Milk Jug for my frames, red for my wood letter sign, and brown to add a few streaks on the frame

One wood fall letter sign--Purchased a pack at Dollar Tree

Paintbrush

Twine

Scissors

Optional--Fall craft leaves

Screwdriver--You will only need this if you purchased this particular picture frame with the metal design on the bottom

Start by removing any decorations on your four frames. I used my screwdriver to remove the screws and metal design. Skip this step if your frames are plain and without the decorations.

Next, remove the backing from all four frames. Once you have removed the backing and glass. Set your glass aside.

Once the backing and glass have been removed, take your paintbrush and begin to apply your paint. I applied around two coats of paint and used my blow dryer to dry my paint in between coats. 

After you have applied paint to the front of each frame, take each frame and begin to paint all areas that will be visible once the frames are glued together. 

Take your brown paint and use a paintbrush to gently add on a few streaks. I wanted to give my frames a little bit of a distressed look. I used my paintbrush and randomly added a few streaks of my brown paint. I used my finger to gently spread the paint. 

Next, begin to add your frames together. I used hot glue to connect my frames, but shortly after I noticed that it would take more than just hot glue to attach my frames. I grabbed my E6000 glue and added that along with my hot glue. This will help to keep your frames together and prevent them from coming apart. I recommend using a second adhesive along with your hot glue.

Afterward, take your wooden sign and begin to add paint to it. I decided to go with a red paint color. 

Next, take your wooden sign and glue it onto the middle of your four frames.

Afterward, turn your glued frames over and begin to add only your glass back into each frame. I found that it helps to add hot glue into the four corners of each frame before adding in your glass. Doing this helps to keep your glass in place and prevent it from shifting. 

Take your fall stickers and begin to add them to your glass. I decided to add my stickers to the front of my glass. You can always add your stickers behind your glass. Keep in mind that by adding your stickers behind the glass, you would need to add adhesive to keep them on your glass. This is why I decided to stick with adding my stickers to the front of my glass. 

You are now ready to add your twine onto the back of your frame design. Flip your frame over, and cut a medium-length section. Next, bend back the flexible points on your frames. I added hot glue, and then tied a knot around each point. The flexible points are the tabs that hold in the glass.

I went ahead and also added the remaining twine down onto my frame using my hot glue. You can also add extra adhesive when attaching your twine. 

This last step is completely optional, but I decided to take a few fall craft leaves and add them to my frame. I thought it was a simple addition, and it turned out so cute! 

Your Fall faux window design is now complete! I love how this turned out, and it was pretty simple to create using a few materials from Dollar Tree. I hope that you will create one this Fall season.
