A Little Autumn Glow: DIY Candle Holder Decor

It's been a little while since I last shared a craft project. Between life, family time, and various adventures, my craft supplies have mostly been sitting quietly, waiting for me to return. While I've enjoyed the break, it felt great to pull everything out again and spend some time creating.

Before our trip, I explored Hobby Lobby. I found a small wooden frame and paper flowers. I decided to make a simple candle holder using a wooden frame and paper flowers.

Supplies I used

Wooden frame
Acrylic paint
Decorative scrapbook paper
Mod Podge
Paper flowers
Faux leaves
Hot glue gun and glue sticks
Flameless candle
Craft knife
Paintbrush

To get started, I applied paint to the wooden frame to give it a darker, rustic look. I knew I wanted the flowers to be the focal point, and the darker wood seemed like the perfect backdrop for the soft colors of the paper flowers.
After the paint dried completely, I cut a piece of scrapbook paper to fit the center opening of the frame. Using a craft knife, I carefully cut the paper to size. I placed the paper over the front side of the frame and followed the outline of the inner frame with the craft knife. Don't worry if your cut isn't perfectly square; I had a small gap on one side, and honestly, that's fine.
After trimming the material to the correct size, I attached it using Mod Podge. There are several tricks to consider when working with Mod Podge. I prefer to apply Mod Podge directly to the surface of my project before adding the paper. Once I've layered it over the paper, I use a heating tool to help it adhere better. I've experimented with various methods, and I've found that what works best really depends on you and your project. Whether you choose to use plastic wrap, a mini craft iron, or another tool, most importantly, have fun with it!

I love the use of the scrapbook paper. This little detail adds just enough pattern and color without taking attention away from everything else.

Next came my favorite part of the project. I gathered all of my paper flowers and started playing around with different arrangements. I moved things around several times before settling on a design that felt balanced and welcoming. Once I was happy with the placement, I used hot glue to attach everything to the frame. This is usually when I get excited because the project finally starts to look like the picture I had in my head. Little by little, all of the individual pieces came together into one finished design.

For the final touch, I placed a flameless candle in the center. The soft glow was exactly what this project needed. It instantly transformed the piece from a simple floral arrangement into a cozy autumn decoration.

I absolutely love how this project turned out. It's simple, cozy, and adds just the right touch of fall to our home. More than anything, it reminded me how much I've missed creating. Sometimes one small project is all it takes to spark your creativity again.

A few decorating ideas to consider

One thing I love about projects like this is how versatile they are. I created mine as a simple autumn accent piece, but there are so many ways you could use it in your seasonal decorating.

If you're decorating a dining table, you could consider making several of them, or using a longer wooden frame and placing them down the center of the table. The soft candlelight from each piece would create a warm, cozy glow that's perfect for fall gatherings and holiday meals.

Another idea is to incorporate one into a decorative tray display. Pair it with a small pumpkin, pinecones, a seasonal candle, or a few pieces of faux greenery for an easy fall vignette on a coffee table or entryway table.

You could also place it on a mantel surrounded by garland and autumn leaves. The candlelight would add an extra touch of warmth to your seasonal display.

For smaller spaces, this candle holder would fit beautifully on an end table, bookshelf, or kitchen counter. Sometimes it's the little touches scattered throughout a room that help make a home feel cozy for the season.

If you're hosting Thanksgiving, these could even double as part of your centerpiece. By changing the flower colors, you could customize them for just about any season or holiday.

And if you're anything like me, you might find yourself making one for every room once you realize how easy they are to put together!

Thank you so much for stopping by today. It feels wonderful to be back at my craft table. I can't wait to share more of my crafts with you soon!

How I Styled 6 Fall Trays Using Simple Reused Decor

This fall, I wanted to challenge myself to decorate with just a few simple items—things most of us already have tucked away in our craft bins. With one round tray, a Dollar Tree lantern, a battery‑operated LED candle, a handful of faux florals, and a mix of Dollar Tree pumpkins, I created six different autumn looks. Each one feels cozy, seasonal, and unique, all without buying a bunch of new décor. My goal was to show how versatile your everyday pieces can be.
