Spring Hanging Flower Box Using a Dollar Tree Easter Box

I love projects that start with something simple and turn into something you can use all season long. This little Easter box from Dollar Tree was perfect for that. I wanted one side to stay Easter‑themed just as it came, but the real goal was to turn the other side into a fresh spring decoration I could hang up long after the holiday. With a little paint, a few flowers, and a cute wooden house, it came together so easily—and now I can flip it depending on my mood or the season.

Quick Video tutorial

Materials

  • One Easter box from Dollar Tree
  • Acrylic paint (white and pink or any colors you prefer)
  • Paintbrush
  • Wooden decorative house
  • Loose faux flowers
  • Faux flowers with stems
  • Craft foam block
  • Hot glue or another strong adhesive
  • Heating tool (optional for faster drying)

Preparing the Box

To begin, apply white acrylic paint to the side you wish to convert into your spring design. Use enough paint to thoroughly cover the printed artwork, typically requiring two coats. Allow the paint to dry completely, or use a heating tool to speed up the drying process.

Painting the Wooden House & Adding Loose Flowers

Once the box is dry, turn your attention to the wooden decorative house. Add a coat of pink acrylic paint, or choose a color that complements your flowers. Let the paint dry fully before attaching it to the box. When ready, secure the house to the bottom corner of the painted side using hot glue.

With the house in place, begin attaching your loose faux flowers. Arrange them along the top, bottom, or sides—wherever you want a pop of color. Hot glue works well for this step, giving you control over placement and layering.

Filling the Box with Faux Florals

If you plan to add faux standing flowers, insert a craft foam block into the box. You may need to trim the foam to fit snugly. Once it’s in place, insert your faux flower stems into the foam until the arrangement feels full and balanced.

A Versatile, Seasonal Decoration

This simple project gives you a two‑sided decoration you can flip throughout the season. One side celebrates Easter, and the other offers a fresh spring look. With the option to change your floral theme, it becomes a piece you can refresh again and again.
