Upcycled Winter Themed Glass Jar Tutorial

Winter crafting is one of my favorite ways to bring warmth and charm into the home—and what better way to do that than by upcycling something you already have? This winter-themed glass jar tutorial transforms a simple jar into a festive faux flower display using just a few materials and a whole lot of heart.
Whether you're decorating a mantel, gifting a handmade arrangement, or simply adding seasonal flair to your space, this project is a budget-friendly and joyful way to celebrate the season.

Materials You'll Need

Craft paper, wrapping paper, or any decorative paper of your choice
Mod Podge
One glass jar
Shape punch (I used a holiday-themed one)
Twine, yarn, or decorative craft string
Scissors
Winter-themed faux flower mix
Hot glue gun
Optional: Glitter glue (I used gold)
Optional: One mini bow

Prep Your Jar and Punch & Cut Your Paper

Start by removing any labels from your glass jar and giving it a good wash. Let it dry completely before moving on.

Using your shape punch, punch out your chosen design from the top of your decorative paper. I used brown wrapping paper for a rustic winter vibe. Then, trim the rest of the paper to fit your jar using scissors.

Apply the Paper with Mod Podge

Line the paper over the jar and use a paintbrush to apply a thin layer of Mod Podge directly onto the glass. Press the paper gently into place, smoothing out any bubbles. Reapply Mod Podge as needed to secure the edges.
Tip: Use a heat tool to speed up drying between layers.

Add Glitter Accents

With a smaller brush, apply glitter glue to the exposed glass areas where the shape punch created openings. This adds a magical sparkle!
Optional: Mix paint with Mod Podge for a stained glass effect to achieve a more vibrant look.

Wrap with Twine and Add Bow (Optional)

Using hot glue, attach twine, yarn, or jute just above the paper. Wrap it around the jar, gluing as you go. Be sure to protect your fingers while working with hot glue. If you have a mini bow, glue it just above the twine for an extra festive touch.

Arrange Your Faux Flowers

Finally, fill your jar with a winter-themed faux flower mix. Think frosted pine, berries, white blooms, or eucalyptus for a seasonal feel.
