Home Decor Made Simple: Three Ways to Decorate a Wooden Tray

Hello, my crafting friends! Instead of making a craft today, I'll share three simple ways to decorate a wooden tray using supplies from previous projects and items from around the house. This is a wonderful opportunity to reuse craft materials and incorporate things you already have. I wanted to keep each tray display simple. I’ll demonstrate three methods for decorating a wooden tray, and at the end of the post, I’ll also offer some quick ideas for displaying faux flowers. Come along and decorate with me!

***Note and disclaimer: All decorations used in my post/video were for staging purposes. Decorate your tray as you wish, but always remain safe when lighting a candle near other objects and remain close by. My candle was watched at all times and was for staging and photographic purposes. Thank you!***

Items for decorating your tray:
- One wooden tray
- Candle
- Jars
- Decorations such as mini signs, "hello" wording, clay pots, and glass jars
- Faux foliage, flowers, and other greenery

Tray Decoration #1
For the first tray, I wanted to reuse a honey jar I received as a gift a few years back. I had a bundle of faux foliage that I thought would look great in the honey jar.  I displayed the jar at one end of the tray and a home sweet home sign at the other. As mentioned before I wanted to keep each tray display simple. I ended the design by adding a candle to the center of the tray.

Tray Decoration #2
For the next design, I wanted to create a simple spring design. I thought it would be perfect to reuse two of the flower displays I made in previous projects. I added my painted clay pot, and a mini flower display with spring flowers, displaying a miniature bumblebee. I added the clay pot in one corner of the tray. The candle is displayed in the other corner. I then added the hello sign in front of the candle jar. I finished it by adding my mini flower display before the hello sign.

Tray Decoration #3
I wanted to add two bunnies I decoupaged with flowers for this last tray display. I started by adding a vanilla-scented candle with coffee beans in a glass jar. Next,  I added a clay pot and saucer that had craft moss and faux flowers from a previous craft. I took each of my decoupaged bunnies and added them to the pot display. I then added my faux flowers and foliage to the tray.

A few ways to display faux flowers

When decorating and displaying my faux flowers, I love to use items either created from previous crafts or found around my home. The picture above shows a few ways I showcase my faux flowers.

-I reuse glass jars. For one of my flower arrangements, I repurposed a tiny jam jar. I applied clear glue to the bottom of the jar and then added a mix of faux wildflowers along with a bumblebee button.

-Candle jars. Candle jars are excellent for reuse. I utilize them in various ways, but simply adding acrylic paint can transform an ordinary candle jar into a stunning flower vase.

-Mini watering can. I enjoy reusing my mini watering can to display faux flowers, especially in the springtime; I find it quite fitting.

Clay pots. You can transform clay pots by applying acrylic paint, texture, twine, and embellishments. I used a clay pot and a clay saucer, added paint, attached them together, and then added craft moss along with faux flowers.

All of these are fun ways to showcase faux flowers.

Did you enjoy these quick tray decorating ideas? You can certainly add more decorations to your trays if you'd like. I prefer to keep my trays simple and clean. A few of my favorite decorations are included to match either a seasonal theme or my home decor. You can place your wooden tray on your kitchen counter or on a coffee table. Thank you for visiting and decorating with me. I hope you have enjoyed these quick decorating ideas.
