DIY Dollar Tree Floral Painted Tray

Hey everyone! Today, I want to show you how to transform a small Dollar Tree tray by adding painted floral art to give it a fresh new look. This DIY tutorial uses affordable supplies from Dollar Tree and is perfect for adding a personalized touch to your home decor.

Wooden tray with floral paint design

Materials
One small wooden tray - 5x7 inches
Paintbrush
Acrylic paint
Mod Podge

Applying paint to the tray

Start by painting the main section of your tray Then, use a second paint color to cover the front and sides of the tray. For my tray, I used both white and light blue.

Creating your flower vase

Creating the flower vase was quite simple. I used a smaller paintbrush to create two lines opposite each other. After making the lines, I filled the middle section between them with paint.

Creating your flowers

I chose shades of purple, pink, blue, and yellow for my flowers. I created both smaller and medium-sized flowers using my smaller paintbrush.

I created leaves using a mixture of lighter green and blue paint.

Continue painting your flowers until the vase is filled.
After painting, let the paint dry completely. A layer of Mod Podge should be applied to the design.

Painted tray with flowers

The tray design is complete. I am thrilled with how I transformed a mini tray I purchased from Dollar Tree a few months ago. The transformation was quick and simple.
This tray can be added to any decor and displayed at a tea party. You can even add pegs to the bottom of the tray to create a mini tray riser, that holds a soap bottle, lotion, or other items.

  1. This is fantastic Stephanie! I have a soft spot for wooden trays. Got my daughter to paint it white, but didn't add any more to it. This looks like a fab idea! Thank you for sharing!

    1. Maya, you are so kind. Maybe your daughter can add to her tray soon. I wasn't sure at first what I wanted to add to it, but decided to paint on a few flowers. I'm not much for a painter, but gave it a go anyway. :) Thank you for visiting. I appreciate it very much.

  2. This is a wonderful idea. The first thing I thought of for this would be for my bed side table. A tray to place my rings I take off at night along with my glasses. The tray would be a place holder of sorts. I really like this idea. Thank you for making the suggestion!
    Take care and best wishes.
