DIY Christmas Faux Foliage Wooden Crate Decoration

Hello everyone! I hope you're doing well. Can you believe it's almost December? With the holidays around the corner, it's time to add a festive touch to your home. In this easy DIY project, you'll learn how to use faux foliage and a wooden crate to create a beautiful and personalized decoration. The inspiration for this craft came from a single gift tag, and I'm excited to share it with you. So, let's get crafting together!

Here's the video tutorial to guide you through the process.

Here is a list of materials you will need to create your wooden Christmas crate decoration

  • One wooden arch decor- 5''x7''
  • One wooden crate-Dollar Tree Rectangular Wooden crate
  • Christmas foliage
  • One gift tag
  • One sanding block
  • Paintbrush
  • Acrylic paint
  • Optional: Mod Podge, mini bow, and faux snow

Applying paint to arch wood decor and crate

To start, apply acrylic paint to your arch wood. Begin with white paint and apply two coats, using a blow dryer to dry each coat. Next, mix white and green paint together and thin the mixture with water if it's too thick. Alternating between the two colors, create streaks of white and green on your wood surface.

Next, take your wooden crate and apply your acrylic paint. My wooden crate was painted black from a previous craft project. I decided to go over my wooden crate with white acrylic paint.

Using a sanding block on the wooden crate

I wanted to give my crate a slightly worn appearance, so I used a sanding block to gently sand the top paint layer and reveal the black paint underneath. This step is not necessary, but it does add a more rustic touch to the overall look.

Adding the gift tag

To add the gift tag to the arch wood, start by removing any ribbon attached to it. If your gift tag has a back-folded paper, use scissors to remove it. If not, skip this step. Then, take adhesive and attach your gift tag to the wooden arch. I suggest attaching it to the middle of the wooden arch decor.

Optional: Adding Mod Podge and faux snow

First, grab a small paintbrush and start applying Mod Podge around the gift tag. Keep in mind that this step is optional. Next, take some faux snow powder and spread it over the areas where you applied the Mod Podge. Finally, remove any excess snow gently.

Attaching arch wood inside of the wooden crate

To attach your wooden arch to the wooden crate, first apply a thin layer of hot glue to the bottom of the arch. Then, carefully insert the arch into the crate and press it firmly against the back, inside of the crate. Make sure to leave enough space to insert the foliage later on.

Adding mini bow and foliage

To begin, grab your mini bow and use hot glue to attach it to the top of your arch decor. Next, take your faux foliage and start adding it to the inside of the wooden crate. You can use a foam block to insert your foliage or simply add it straight into the crate.

Once you're done, your Christmas faux foliage wooden crate decoration is complete and ready to be displayed. It's a simple craft that anyone can create. If you decide to give it a try, I'd love to hear from you. Thank you for visiting and creating with me.
