Greetings to all my lovely readers! I want to express my sincere gratitude to each and every one of you for taking the time to visit my blog. Whether you've tried my crafts or simply stopped by to read, I am thankful for your support. Crafting is a passion of mine and I take great pleasure in sharing my tutorial guides with all of you.
As the Fall season approaches, I've been working on creating some new crafts. I'm delighted to say that I've given myself a head start on Fall crafting and I'm excited to share my latest creation with you all today. In this tutorial, I'll be showing you how to make a charming Autumn wooden hanging sign. You'll find all the necessary steps in this easy-to-follow guide. I am reusing the round plywood sign from my local Dollar Tree store, so it's an affordable and accessible project.
Video tutorial
Materials
One round wooden sign--size 11.875 inches
Purchased at Dollar Tree
Mod Podge
Paintbrushes
One fall-themed decorative napkin
Faux leaves or foliage
Ribbon to create a bow
Twine
Acrylic chalk paint and a second paint color are optional
Scissors
Hot glue
Adding paint to wooden sign
I decided to reuse my wooden sign from a previous project. Before I could apply my paint I had to sand the old paint off. I managed to get most of the old paint off.
After, I took my chalk paint and applied it to my wooden sign. I applied around three coats of acrylic paint. Allow your paint to fully dry between each coat.
Optional- Adding a second paint to the wooden sign
Next, I decided to add a second paint color to my sign. I wanted to add a few streaks of my pumpkin color paint to the top portion of my sign. I took a napkin and applied a little paint to the tip of the napkin and I began to move my hand in a steady motion when applying the streaks. Of course, you can use a paintbrush when applying your paint as well.
Preparing your decorative napkin
If your napkin is 2-ply, take your decorative napkin and remove the second layer of your napkin. After, take your scissors and cut the section of your napkin that you will want to use on your sign. My napkin had a pumpkin design, so I decided to cut across my napkin and use the pumpkin design.
Applying Mod Podge and Napkin
Afterward, take your paintbrush and begin to apply a layer of Mod Podge to the bottom section of your wooden sign. Next, take your decorative napkin and lay it over the Mod Podge. Gently smooth your napkin over your Mod Podge. Apply a layer of Mod Podge over your decorative napkin and use a heat tool to dry it. There are several ways to apply your Mod Podge, and I always say do what works best for you.
After, take your twine and cut a long enough section so that you can place it across the center of your sign. It will go just above your decorative napkin. Use your hot glue to attach your twine. I used three sections of twine that I cut and attached to my sign.
These last two steps are completely optional. If you have any faux leaves or greenery you can add them to your sign. I added a few of my faux fall leaves and added three to the twine.
If you want you can also add a bow. I took two sections of my ribbon, cut them, and folded them in half. I took the center of each bunched them and tied the middle off with twine. As always have fun creating your bow. I'm not the best at creating bows, but I would like to think that I am getting better.
Your decorative fall sign is complete! I hope that you enjoyed creating this simple fall sign that is beautiful when displayed on a front door. Thank you so much for stopping by and creating with me. I'll see you soon.
