Decorative Wooden Cutting Board

 Hello everyone! Today, we are creating a simple design. I am taking a wooden cutting board and adding a few design elements to it. I thought this would be a great addition to a tray, or just to add along with my existing decor. I will include a materials list below, and also, there will be one within the video. Thank you so much for coming along and creating with me.

Materials

One small wooden cutting board

Decorative wrapping paper or tissue paper

Acrylic paint

Paintbrush

Twine or rope

Hot glue

One heart decoration

Scissors

Wooden letters

Mod podge

Optional- Faux greenery

One pencil for tracing

Tracing and cutting the wrapping paper

To begin, place your wrapping paper on a flat surface. Take your wooden cutting board and put it on top of your paper. With a pencil, trace around the board onto the wrapping paper. After tracing, use scissors to cut out the traced shape.

Next, lay your cut-out wrapping paper on top of your wooden cutting board.  I decided that I only wanted part of my board covered with my wrapping paper. I took a ruler and drew a line across the center of my wrapping paper. I used my scissors and cut the bottom section off.

Applying Mod Podge

Afterward, use your paintbrush and apply Mod Podge to your wooden cutting board. I only applied Mod Podge to the areas where my wrapping paper would go. Take your wrapping paper, and lay it over the Mod Podge.  Once your wrapping paper is applied, smooth out any creases and wrinkles on your paper. I always use a blow dryer when working with Mod Podge. I know that several different techniques work well.

After that, take your wooden board and apply your acrylic paint to it. I paint on the wood surface just below my wrapping paper.

Next, take your twine and cut two sections to add between the painted area and the wrapping paper.  I used a little hot glue when attaching my twine to my wooden board.

Adding wooden letters and heart decoration

After you have attached your twine to your board, take your wooden letters and attach them to your board. I decided to add my letters across the bottom section of my board. I used E6000 adhesive when adding my letters.

All that is left is to add your heart decoration. I purchased a pack of these heart decorations at my local Dollar Tree. They have a small hole in the top middle section. If yours does not have a hole, you can easily attach your heart using some adhesive. For my heart, I took some twine, pulled it through the hole, and tied it off around the handle on my board.
