DIY Winter Wonderland Reusing Tea Tin Container

Have you ever wondered what to do with those tea tin containers once you’ve finished using them? While going through my tea storage, I came across one nearly empty tin. After finishing it off, I decided to create a beautiful winter scene using the tin. I absolutely love making these little winter displays by repurposing tin containers. If you’d like to create one yourself, I would love for you to follow along!

Materials for winter scene tin container

Materials Needed:

- Tin container

- Acrylic paint

- Sanding block (optional)

- Paintbrush

- Foam block

- Decorative tissue paper

- Mod Podge

- Winter decorations (I’m using faux snow cotton, a winter tree, and a wooden house)

- Hot glue

- Optional: stamp and ink, faux pearl stickers

Prepare the Tin Container: Start by applying paint to the tin container. I chose to use my sanding block beforehand to prepare the surface for paint.

Once sanded, apply your acrylic paint. Make sure to allow the paint to dry completely. I needed three coats for full coverage.

Cut the Tissue Paper: Next, cut your tissue paper. I decided to use a snowflake print and cut out three smaller sections, but you could also opt for a larger piece to cover more of the tin.

Apply Mod Podge: Use a paintbrush to apply Mod Podge to the tin container. Place the tissue paper over the Mod Podge and then apply more Mod Podge over the paper. Repeat this process around the container until it is fully covered. You can use your sanding block to remove any excess paper.

Add Decorations: If you like, you can enhance the snowflake designs with faux pearls and a stamped tree. This step is optional.

Paint the Wooden House: Using a smaller paintbrush, paint your wooden house with light blue and white acrylic paint.

Prepare the Inside: Insert a foam block inside the tin container. Use hot glue to attach the wooden house to the top of the foam.

Add Faux Snow and Greenery: Cover the foam block with faux snow cotton. Then, place the glittery white tree next to the house. Complete the scene by adding faux winter greenery between the tree and the house.

Optional Lights: Consider adding shimmery battery-operated lights to your display for an extra touch.

I love creating these tin container winter scenes! They make beautiful additions to mantels, and winter-themed trays, or can enhance your other winter and Christmas decorations. Enjoy crafting!
